About the event
What kind of Songs will we sing?
The songs we sing are gathered from all around the world and accompanied by the harmonium.
These songs honour the Mother in all her forms and in all her phases of life-bearing and life-giving.
They are simple and repetitive; easy to learn, easy to remember so you have them in your pocket when you need a song to soothe.
If we allow them, they can induce a meditative state; an acute awareness and presence in the here and now.
Some are specifically birthing chants, but can be sung at any time in life!
Who is the group for?
This monthly group is for everyone. It centres around loving and honouring the Mother, as i believe many traditional societies once did. The Mother is the bedrock of society. She binds us all together. She gives life. Her children bring love and joy to all around. That love and joy was intended to be shared with everybody - not just nuclear family units or mother and baby groups. So, whilst the group is centred around Mothers and their children, it is truly open to every one at every age and stage of life. All those who would like to share in honouring and supporting mothers, and in being around young children are warmly invited.
Can I hear some of the songs?
If you would like a taster of the type of music we will be singing, here is a link to an album of Birth Songs and Lullabies that I have recently created with my friends Eve Goodman and Ben Ford. The album is called Birth and Beyond and you can listen for free here.
Will refreshments be provided?
Teas and snacks will always be a staple at every group that I run! We will sing first for up to an hour and then have tea and snacks and time to meet others and chat informally.
